Daily Photo Challenge Day 1: A hobby for hobby’s sake.

I have a lot of hobbies. Videography/Cinematography, woodworking, 3d printing and 3d design, graphic design, photography etc… I take joy in the creative process and love to make things that other people enjoy. More often than not I attempt to turn my hobbies in to a hustle. I’m sure many of you can relate. It’s always a dream to be able to pay the bills doing something that you love to do, so naturally we start looking at our hobbies to be that source of income. Even if it is only supplemental. This has inevitably always either turned the thing I love doing into a chore, or left me with a bitter taste towards my once beloved hobby when it turns out to not be as profitable as I would have hoped after pouring my heart and soul into it. (see the Framing Life Media and ezStack Tiles links above for examples of flopped hobby businesses)

Enter 2020

This year has been rough… I’m not gonna spell out all of the woes that 2020 has brought us, but I believe it has done at least one positive thing: It has opened up some free time for a lot of people to discover new thing they enjoy. For me, it has taught me that its ok to have a hobby JUST FOR FUN. No expectation of future profit. No business plan or marketing strategy required. For me entrepreneurship is a hobby in and of itself that I will be revisiting at some point, but it doesn’t have to bleed into every little thing I do as a hobby.

This is why I am starting this “Daly Photo Challenge.” Not to challenge anyone else, but to challenge myself. I want to challenge myself to improve on my photography skills and to have fun while doing it.

Most days wont have a whole blog post. I’ll post them in the challenge page with a short description when I feel its needed. This next year should be an interesting year to document. COVID-19 is ramping up at the same time that promising results from multiple vaccines are announced. We have a new President Elect and a divided country. This next year should be very transformative. I hope to capture some of that in this challenge, but most of all I hope to have fun.
